The PWMA is a Hong Kong-based voluntary association incorporated as a company limited by guarantee. The initiative to set up an industry association for the private wealth management industry is the result of a consultancy study sponsored by the Hong Kong Assocation of Banks (HKAB). HKAB and its memebrs believe that the initiative will help maintain Hong Kongs status and competitiveness as a major financial centre.

The Executive Committee consists of 10 members. As the governing body, the Committee is responsible for the management and strategic direction of the association.
