Shockingly, uber-wealthy old guy isnt a fan of economic models under which he would be slightly less than uber-wealthy

Easy for him to say. He never has to work multiple jobs a day, or choose between a doctor visit and rent, or food and gas for the car to get to work.

I enjoy how every defense of capitalism essentially implies that human beings were bored out of their mind and utterly destitute before capitalism offered the idea of going to a store and buying useless crap.

That is a stupid f*cking headline and an idiotic take.

YES, we need a stronger mix of social safety nets/vocational schools/etc… But to think that Capitalism has no place in driving economic prosperity to PAY for all of that sh*t is idiotic at best.

All of thos places you want to cite, Scandinavia and Europe? they derive the capital needed for their social programs from the Capitalistic world system we are all engaged in.

Holy shiat… Knock it off. Warren is one who advocates using the Capitalist system for the better of all mankind. Hes last guy you want to sh*t on.

I just wish that stupid farkers would learn the difference between socialism and democratic socialism.

I watched this interview. He made the argument that I make here constantly. Namely, that people are frequentlyusing the term socialism to mean lots of other randomthings other than what the term actually means (IE, that the state owns the means of production).

Capitalism is the engine that provides the funding to provide services like education, healthcare, and a social safety net. And like all engines it needs some additions to keep it from polluting the world around it. I

version that ends up creating a plutocracy that I dislike.

The right-wing in the US screams socialism at anything even smacking of centrist, much less leftist. Remember the over-the-top hystrionics they went into over the Affordable Care Act? They dont CARE about the difference, they just go into a well-conditioned hatred at the word socialism no matter if its Marxist Socialism or Democratic Socialism.

The left doesnt care about the semantics, yeah, theyre wanting Democratic Socialism, but theyve given up pandering to the right that doesnt care about the difference and have basically taken up the banner of If wanting universal healthcare and a living wage is socialist, then dangit, were socialists!

Hey the Soviets had to wait in long lines for their useless crap.

Any plan addressing income inequality needs to have a progressive capital gains tax. Any candidate whose plan does not include this is purposefully enabling the rich to shiat on the poor and middle class.

In this country socialism means Canadian or European style benefit systems. Anything that the government offers to everyone is socialism.

We have communities with private fire departments because government run services are socialism. That is the political discourse happening right now.

Yeah, well, Buffets sell by date has long since past. He made a ton of money. Now he should stop making more money and start doing something good for humanity, like maybe giving some of the real estate he scooped up at bankruptcy prices, post 2008 crash, and start giving to people who need good housing to bring up their kids somewhere to live that isnt a shiathole

Have you noticed young people call just Laissez-faire capitalism capitalism and they think mixed or non-laissez-faire is Socialism

Its not one or the other, and capitalism doesnt man no rules to protect workers.

Step 2: Have father pay for your Ivy League education

Step 4: Have your father get you lucrative job on Wall Street

Step 5:Have your fathers friendsgive you money to invest

Step 6: Become wealthy thru your own hard work

This is the richest nation on Earth! We dont have poor people.

Heavily regulating the institutions that buy immunity from power, and eliminating the profit-seeking middlemen from the health industry, are not socialism.

I though he made his millions by investing his paper route money from the time he was three years old.

Buffet actually supports a lot of socialist things if you go by the GOPs definition of socialism. Hes just not a socialist socialist.

Capitalism only works if billionaires were more like Scrooge McDuck, andbenevolentlyprovided us with things like cheap, clean, renewable energy from their conquest of the ruins of the lost city of Atlantis, and kept prices consistently low to undercut Glomgold.

Buffett does more for the lesser advantaged every year than you and your entire line of ancestors have probably done in thespan of their historical existence. If you want to try and argue that he should do more, then thats one thing, but glass houses and all that.

Trying to argue that because hes incredibly successful means he doesnt do good for humanity is stupid. The bottom line is that he does a hell of a lot more than you ever will, despite the fact that hes an evil rich guy.

Geotpf:red230: Any plan addressing income inequality needs to have a progressive capital gains tax. Any candidate whose plan does not include this is purposefully enabling the rich to shiat on the poor and middle class.

Note that Buffett is in favor of such. In fact, the last Democratic bill introduced to do so was named after him, IIRC.

UNC_Samurai:Heavily regulating the institutions that buy immunity from power, and eliminating the profit-seeking middlemen from the health industry, are not socialism.

It sort of is. Socialism isnt the ownership of production/distribution/etcby the state, though it could involve that, italso includes theregulation of production/distribution/etc. Its a relatively loose term.

Capitalism has been failing most people lately because its getting too top heavy. If it cant be redeemed then it must be discarded like all other failed ideologies.

Its the concept of socialism that puts checks on capitalism. Social Capitalism enables the competitive business model to help everyone flourish without undermining the least powerful. If youre not for socialism (not communism) youre for anti-socialism and you can GTFO.

NewportBarGuy:That is a stupid f*cking headline and an idiotic take.

YES, we need a stronger mix of social safety nets/vocational schools/etc… But to think that Capitalism has no place in driving economic prosperity to PAY for all of that sh*t is idiotic at best.

But capitalism is no longer paying paying for the social safety net. At least, the people controlling capitalism no longer believe they needto.

Simply put, the working class in this country cannot shoulder the burden of maintaining every aspect of a functioning modern first world economy, especially when coupled with runaway military expenditures and explodingpublic debt.

When social security and other essential services disappear, the elderly, the sick, and the poor are not going to go away, suddenly become employed again, or instantly find charitable caretakers. And when the working class, already shouldering the burden of the military industrial complex and crippling national debt, suddenly find themselves also expected to start paying thousands per month for their elderly and infirm family members, were going to see a complete collapse of capitalism.

Unknown Subject:Capitalism has been failing most people lately because its getting too top heavy. If it cant be redeemed then it must be discarded like all other failed ideologies.

Well then offer up your replacement solution. Also, redeemed and failingseem to be awfully subjective. Our people arent exactly living in a dystopian hellscape no matter what the kiddies would like to pretend.

Socialism is not what we shouldbe debating. That is too general.

People that defend the inequality baffles me. Often times I find its because:

1. They dont really grasp just how unfathomablywealthy the wealthy truly are.

B. They dont realize thatcapitalism is not a meritocracy, and that billionaires are not necessarily more skilled, intelligent, or hard working.

III. They dont value their own work and dont understand that acting in their own self-interests doesnt entail defending companies.

Theyre authoritarians who want a rigid power structure in which their the boot lickers.

Someone working 50 hours a week to try and scrape together enough for childcare will never know the real hard work of sitting in an expensive office and guessing what company rich people think is valuable at any given moment. Thats adding real value to the world.

Once again, not one major candidate is advocating true socialism. So why are we continuing to have this conversation?

This is the richest nation on Earth! We dont have poor people.

Hoarding that much wealth is innately immoral. He could buy everyone on the entire earth a nice lunch and still have 10,000 timesmore money left over than youll ever make in your lifetime.

Its funny how so many progressives lose sight of the fact that were living in the greatest society humanity has ever produced. Sure there are flaws, but there is no time\place thats done any better.

I think you probably mean the difference between socialism and social democracy. Democratic socialism usually means still getting rid of capitalism. The DSA for example, makes it clear they are actual socialists thathave public shared ownership of the meansof production as their goal.

You have some of the lines right. Others are complete bulls**t.

Step 1: Earn the modern day equivalent of $5077 as a paper-boy at the age of 13

Step 2: Buy pinball machines and start up a business putting them in barbershops across his hometown

Step 3: Earn more money by selling stamps, Coca-Cola (KO) beverages, golf balls and magazines door-to-door, while alsoworking as an editor for a horse racing tip sheet calledStable-Boy Selections

Step 4: By the age of 15, buy a 40 acre house farm. For $2000 in 1945 dollars.

Step 5: Graduate from college at the age of 19.

Step 7:Be pressured by your dad to enter the Wharton School, even though you are making tons of money in business already. Hire someone to take care of your farm and use the proceeds to pay for it

Step 8: By tinkering when going to school, end up worth$9,800 in savings (about $103,000 today) by the end of college

Step 9: Become aninvestment salesman and a securities analyst. Make bank.

Step 10: Seriously consider retiring at the age of 26, but then realize that you promised yourself that youdbe a millionaire by the age of 35.
