Recently, Hugo Schwyzer authored a breathtakingly silly article published in

titled What If Men Stopped Chasing Much-Younger Women? and then added the prescriptive subtitle: It would benefit everyone, of all ages and genders. This reminds me of the old Arabic quip (my mother tongue is Arabic): If my grandmother had testicles, we would have called her my grandfather.

Incidentally, Christopher Ryan, a fellowPsychology Todayblogger, recently put apostin which he discussed Schwyzers article. In an article filled with foolish passages devoid of any link to reality, this might be my favorite one by Schwyzer: So if older men arent pursuing much younger women because of evolutionary hardwiring, why do they? Its hard not to conclude that much of the appeal is about the hope of finding someone less demanding. So innumerable men throughout history have sought out young women as mates including emperors, kings, dictators, presidents, and CEOs because they are afraid to face a too demanding partner. Hence, harems throughout history that were filled with beautiful young women were simply an indication of the rulers fragile and insecurepersonality. Kings David and Solomon, Suleyman the Magnificient, and Kang Xi (Chinese emperor), enough with your insecurities. Mate with someone your age, you little punks!

I just found out (via another fellowPsychology Todayblogger,David P. Schmitt) about astudyauthored by Thomas V. Pollet, Sophia E. Pratt, Gracia Edwards, and Gert Stulp and published inLetters on Evolutionary Behavioral Sciencethat addresses this general issue, via an analysis of marriages and remarriages of men and women appearing on the Forbes 400 list. Here are the key findings:

1. When analyzing first marriages, men on the Forbes list married women who were on average younger than the average difference for similar weddings across the US population (7.01 years younger versus 4.1 years younger; p = .007).

2. The same analyses for the wealthy women on the list found that they married husbands who were on average 4.05 years older than them, namely statistically no different from the age difference for first weddings across the US population (p = 0.986).

3. When analyzing remarriages of the very wealth men, they tied the knot with women who were on average an astonishing 22.32 years younger than them. Needless to say, this finding is highly statistically significant when compared to the average age difference for remarriages for the US population (p = 0.002 or p = .011 depending on which population estimate is used).

It is the third finding that is particularly revealing in that it most directly addresses Schwyzers hallucinatory babble. If we are to believe his logic, as these outlandishly wealthy men age and acquire greater wealth, they are that much more in desperate need to mate with a less demanding woman. It could not have anything to do with biology or evolution. God forsake that thought! Only vulgar reductionists would believe that biological forces shape humansexuality.

On a related note, readers might be interested in one of my earlier posts (seehere) in which I discussed a study that explored the relationship between the amount of money that a man spends on an engagement ring and the age of the bride. Care to guess the direction of the correlation?

Finally, this is my second post today. I am on a roll!

One reason a successful man might want to marry a younger women, is because they come with less baggage. Who would want to bring in to their home a bunch of teenagers or adult children? Talk about really upsetting your lifestyle.

Im 36yo go who does well, good job, good education and the like…

And guess which one keept up with me when we were out or in bed?

If a young Bipolar woman can be enthused about being married to the Bipolar ,Trump,no one should question the dangers of Mania and mental illness, especially in women.

It is also about showing off a beautiful young woman on his arm when he goes to important events. Its like buying a designer accessory or a luxury automobile. See, everyone! This is what money can buy even if youre an unattractive old guy like me! That is why these women are called trophy wives. They marry these men knowing what they are getting themselves into. Many of these men are also demanding, even more so than an older woman. They also have a wandering eye and arent willing to work on their marriage because they are too busy with work. These women know and accept those terms in exchange for their much older husbands wealth. Its nothing more than a business deal.

Why do you have such vitriol for older rich men?

I suspect that it is because they are doing something you cannot do. They are using their money to buy happiness. And guess what, they are doing just that. Good for them. You should be happy for them, not trying to tear them down to make you feel better for your pitiful poor life.

What that anon said is just the truth. They ARE trophy wives and DO accept those terms in exchange for his credit card. Why so upset that someone said it?

My husband of 18 years is 8.5 years younger. Since his income is in the top 5%, either Im lucky or hes very secure.

Actually, I just think we have the same goals and support each other loyally. We never turn each other down and put our family first.

All me are attracted to younger beautiful women, including older men. Their ability to recognize and desire beauty doesnt go away just because they get older. If their spouses died and it was socially acceptable, and they could convince the women, most men would prefer a second wife about the age of their first wife when they were first married. Number of birthday candles doesnt change the way the brain recognizes aesthetic beauty and desire for perfection. The only difference is they have money to entice at least one of these young beauties to go along with it.
